The autumn with its colours is especially inviting for trips and activities in nature. But sometimes the weather is just too rainy and cold. And where do you go on a rainy day? You treat yourself to a nice swim in Kranj’s Olympic size pool!
The pool has modern equipment and is being carefully maintained, so this makes it one of the nicest pools in Slovenia. It is used both for professional water sports and leisure activities. Anyone is welcome who wishes to be active and bring some positive effects to their wellbeing and health. Its sports institute also organizes various programmes for recreation and relaxation. For recreational swimmers who would like to improve their stamina, technique and speed, there is an exercise programme, where they can be taught by an expert swimmer. During the autumn and winter vacations, there will be a programme with animators and water games for elementary and secondary school children. The swimming pool opens its doors every day at 7am and you can have fun in the water until 10pm. All the activities and programmes, as well as information about timetables and prices are available on the website of Zavod za šport, the institution that is in charge of Kranj’s swimming pools.
If all these activities in water have made you thirsty, you can have some refreshments at the bar inside the pool building or some excellent food at Gostilna pri Viktorju, the restaurant up the street. If you still have some time, feel like walking and enjoying the autumn weather, there are some interesting local sights in close vicinity to the restaurant.
At the junction of Oldhamska and Cesta Kokrškega odreda stands the Water Tower that has been supplying Kranj with drinking water since 1911. It is 43 metres high and its reservoir has the volume of 250 cubic metres. Due to its authenticity, historic significance, technical qualities and well-preserved condition it is without a doubt an important cultural monument. And from the bridge by the restaurant you can already see the canyon of the Kokra River. You can have a walk along it, listening to murmuring of the river and admiring the colours and wildness. The walk can take you to the picturesque village of Rupa, where the Rupovščica stream flows into the Kokra and then you can cross a meadow and a little forest and arrive at a beautiful place by the river called Kosorep. You can take the path back to the swimming pool and the restaurant and the entire experience will certainly be relaxing, as the fresh air will leave you feeling pleasantly tired after this enjoyable autumn walk.
