In warmer months, Kranj welcomes you with its pleasant urban atmosphere, diverse concert scene, sporting events and delicious cuisine.
Vibrant life of town
The days are getting longer and the warm sun is inviting, so people enjoy walking in the town streets and sit in cafés to chat with friends. In the afternoons, there is always something going in the Main Square. Tuesdays have programmes for children who can jump on a trampoline or on a real ski jump or play many parlour games in the company of Kranček, the gnome. The streets in the historic town centre are full of life also on Thursdays with market stalls offering local produce and other culinary delights. On Wednesdays you can have a free drink in the cafés of the town centre if you bring a coupon that you received at the events on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
Concerts and events
When May comes to town, it brings with it the Teden mladih festival (11–19 May).This Week for the Youth attracts thousands of young people to concerts, sports, children’s programmes and a wide range of cultural activities. The Kranj Music School will organize this year’s final performance of its ballet department, entitled Fish Fantasies (15 May) and a Concert of soloists and chamber groups, full of a variety and youthful virtuosity (17 May). The International Children's and Youth Folklore Festival in Predoslje will have its 15th jubilee this year, the European Year of Cultural Heritage (11 and 12 May). More than 500 elementary school pupils from all over Slovenia, will gather at the Khislstein Summer Stage, united by their love for the French language (17 May). Kranj Town Library will be hosting many educational workshops, lectures, shows and exhibitions.
At the end of May, the Kavka maja Festival invites you to the sounds of pop, blues, folk, rap or ethnic music (24-27 May). The Layer House has many art exhibitions, urban projects and excellent music; in June you should not miss the Thank you for the Flowers! festival. In June, concerts will be taking place at the Khislstein Summer Stage with bands like Big Foot Mama (1 June) And Inner Circle (27 June). And at Pungert, there will be the Jazz Fridays in the summer. The Summer with Prešeren Prize Laureates will begin in June. Most distinguished Slovenian artists will be presented in various locations. On 16 June, it will be the Summer Night of Museums and all the museums of Kranj will be opening their doors to visitors for free.
Sports
Kranj je tudi športno mesto. Od 20. do 22. aprila poteka Mednarodno plavalno prvenstvo Kranja. V soboto 26. 5. pa ste vabljeni na Brdo pri Kranju na 18. županov tek, dobrodelno tradicionalno prireditev za rekreativne tekače in tekačice, ki tečejo za dober namen.
Tastes of Kranj
The popular street food festival Kranjska kuhna is coming again to the squares and streets of Kranj. Every 3rd Saturday of the month this is a great chance to taste traditional Slovenian food as well as diverse international cuisine, an opportunity to enjoy good food and a pleasant company. On 9 June, it will be combined with the Caravan of Domestic Brewers in the Vovk Garden, pampering your taste buds with homemade beers and delicious food prepared from local ingredients. In the beautiful ambient of the Khislstein castle, it will be an unforgettable gourmet experience.
