Actors and Film Festival Kranj
15 to 20 June, 2021
This summer, a new story will come to life at six locations in the old town, with all of them forming a large stage in our amphitheatre of mountains. It will be the first edition of the festival dedicated to films and their actors – KRAFFT.
KRAFFT will bring outstanding world-class films to Kranj, and also talented and world-renowned actors and top-notch film experts who will share their stories, their knowledge and their experiences.
The central focus of the festival is the competition of nine feature films, all of them being noteworthy due to exceptional and sophisticated acting. Special mention should be made of four films that will be shown for the first time in Slovenia: these are the foreign-Oscar-nominated historical drama Quo vadis, Aida? (2020, Jasmila Žbanić), the mystical drama from the forests of the Ivory Coast, Night of the Kings (2020, Philippe Lacôte), Palm Springs, a romantic comedy about a seemingly endless time warp (2020, Max Barbakov) and the lesbian costume drama Ammonite (2020, Francis Lee) with the excellent actors Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan.
In addition to the films in this competition, we can look forward also to a varied programme for film specialists, with TV series as its central theme. The accompanying programme also deserves special attention, as one of the festival days is entirely dedicated to the actor Peter Musevski, who passed away last year.
Prizes awarded within the festival are the golden apples, DSI awards from the Association of Slovenian Actors, and LOK awards from the section of this association featuring dance professionals. The golden apples, named after the Carniolan lily, which is another name for the flower Lilium carniolicum, are awarded to five winners by an international jury of three.
Due to unpredictable and rapidly changing conditions in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's KRAFFT festival will be partially held online. Anyone who will not be able to visit the festival in person will have the chance to watch the films and the expert and accompanying programme on the internet.
The festival, which is entirely dedicated to the art of film and television acting, is organized by the Association of Slovenian Audiovisual Actors (DSI) in cooperation with the City Municipality of Kranj, the Tourism and Culture Board Kranj and the Carnica Institute, with the support of the Slovenian Film Centre and the collective organization AIPA for Copyright, Performers and Producers of Audiovisual Works of Slovenia.
