ALPINE AIR – CITY FLAIR
Kranj, the city built on a rock between two rivers, was in the past already known as a lively centre at the foot of the Alps. Can you imagine how many stories the city has to tell with its 6000 years of history?
Treat yourself to a cultural break where you will be able to hear the most beautiful and attractive stories about this town. Take a walk in the footsteps of the great names of Kranj, who throughout history have influenced the development and the fame of this capital of the Slovenian Alps.
You will experience the time of ancient warriors when you see the world-famous finds, lamellar armours and spears. You, too, can wear a copy of such armour and feel for a moment what it was like to be part of the military elite then. Then you’ll also have the opportunity to explore the former cemetery with an ossuary where the first people were buried already 1400 years ago. France Prešeren, the greatest Slovenian poet, cosmopolitan and philanthropist, left a strong mark on this town and among other masterpieces, he wrote the toast that later became our national anthem. On this tour you will learn also about Leopold Layer, a well-known Baroque painter who painted fake money and then found a way to be relieved of his guilt by painting the famous painting of Mary Help of Christians in Brezje.

The story of Janez Puhar will surely be inspiring as well. He was a priest who was more interested in photography than in holding mass. So he became the first Slovenian photographer and inventor of photography on glass, but due to the sulphur smell that spread around his house from the chemicals he used for that, some people thought he was in league with the devil. By taking a walk through the tunnels beneath the old town, you will have the chance to experience a simulated air strike that will take you back to the time of World War II. The story of this guided tour will then be concluded where everything started, at the place where the first inhabitants of this town settled down 6000 years ago.

What people say about this tour:
Exceptional full town tour ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"The tour starts at Slovenski trg (Slovene square) where you can also buy the tickets, so you don't need to book in advance. Our guide Laura then took us to all the must-see tourist spots in the city (castle, museums, ossuary, tunnels), told us lots of interesting things and stories and also showed us few hidden places with good coffee. We also tried fig liquer and later bought a bottle at the Tourist office centre. I really recommend this tour because you can see/try things you otherwise can't :)"
