There are three bookstores in the city center of Kranj \u2013 Fragmenti<\/strong>, Mladinska knjiga<\/strong> and Knjigarna Ognji\u0161\u010de<\/strong>.<\/p>

Fragmenti<\/strong><\/a> is, among other things, an antique bookshop with a careful selection, combining the love of books with the circular economy. From Pre\u0161ernova Street<\/strong>, where Fragmenti is located, you can walk to Maistrov trg<\/strong>, where you will find Mladinska knjiga<\/strong><\/a>. The popular books there are complemented by gifts and toys.<\/p>

If you walk to Slovenski trg<\/strong>, you will come to Knjigarna Ognji\u0161\u010de<\/strong> at Koro\u0161ka cesta 3<\/strong>, which could be called a gift shop, as it offers a wide range of interesting products in addition to books.<\/p>

Tip for a trip: Kranj trio of self-guided tours<\/a><\/h3>

If you prefer to see the sights at your own pace and at a time that suits you, we recommend an independent tour<\/strong> of the Tunnels under old town of Kranj<\/strong><\/a>, which are still festively decorated<\/strong> until the end of January, or the bell tower of St. Cantianus<\/strong><\/a> or the Cabinet of Inventor Puhar<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>

We recommend purchasing a single ticket<\/strong><\/a> to visit all three. Tours are available every day<\/strong> between 9am and 5:30pm<\/strong>.<\/p>

For years, the food stands called Pre\u0161erna kuhna have been making sure that visitors to Pre\u0161eren Fair<\/strong><\/a> don\u2019t go home hungry or thirsty.<\/p>

This time, the cuisine event has two locations for the first time \u2013 in addition to the permanent one in front of the Pre\u0161eren Theater<\/strong>, the new one will be where one usually finds the open-air market<\/strong>.<\/p>

For the first time in 35 years<\/strong>, it will be possible to reach this city market from the Main Square<\/strong>. The two locations will be offering two types of cuisine. In front of the Pre\u0161eren Theatre<\/strong>, the focus will be on Slovenian cuisine<\/strong>, while the stands at the market<\/strong> will have international cuisine<\/strong>.<\/p>

Shopping: Fair of home-made arts and traditional crafts<\/h3>

Fairs<\/strong> are one of the activities that used to flourish<\/strong> in Kranj. People came to Kranj fairs from near and far across the Austrian Empire. The weekly grain fair was the largest in the Carniola region and Inner Austria!<\/p>

We will be reviving memories of the golden age of fairs on February 8<\/strong> between 10am and 6pm<\/strong>, as stalls selling local products and handicrafts will be set up throughout the city center<\/strong>.<\/p>

For anyone looking to bring a touch of spring into their home, they have this message:<\/p>

\u201cIn the spring, we recommend fresh, vibrant combinations of tulips, ranunculus and spring twigs to bring a sense of new beginnings into your home. Tip for a trip: traditional throwing of coins into Easter eggs<\/h3>

For over 50 years, the Kokrica Tourist Association<\/strong> has made a significant contribution to preserving folk customs and cultural heritage through numerous events. Among these is the annual Easter egg cracking on Easter Monday<\/strong>. Through fun and socializing, you\u2019ll learn about old customs that have been preserved to this day.<\/p>

But you won\u2019t just get the chance to watch the egg games, you\u2019ll also be able to compete in them. You can test your skills in knocking eggs and in tapping them with a crooked stick. You can also compete in egg cracking as a team\u2014three people per team. The organizers are preparing a children\u2019s program as well, where, in addition to cracking eggs, children can have fun rolling eggs on a washboard and a rake, as well as decorating eggs.<\/p>

The traditional Easter egg-cracking event will take place on Monday, April 6 <\/strong>2026, between 9am and 12pm<\/strong> in front of the Mercator Supermarket in Kokrica<\/strong>. At 10:30am<\/strong>, there will be a reception for Olympic gold medallists<\/strong> Niko Vodan<\/strong> and An\u017ee Lani\u0161ek<\/strong>, both of whom are from Kokrica.<\/p>

Event: 56th Week of Slovenian Drama<\/a><\/h3>

On Saturday, 27 March, the 56th was the beginning of this theatre festival<\/strong><\/a> that it will run through 11 April <\/strong>2026. It is the central event for productions based on Slovenian plays and the Pre\u0161eren Theater in Kranj<\/strong> has been organizing it for over half a century with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Kranj.<\/p>

The festival plays an extremely important role in Slovenian drama, as it encourages its staging, creation, and promotion, as well as performances abroad.<\/p>

If you are unable to attend the performances during Slovenian Drama Week<\/strong><\/a> or would like to visit the theatre more often, the Pre\u0161eren Theatre Kranj has a wide range of excellent productions throughout the season.<\/p>

Not to be missed: Slovenian Beekeepers\u2019 Open House Day<\/h3>

On Saturday, April 18<\/strong>, 2026, the beekeepers of Kranj<\/strong> will have a gathering on Main Square<\/strong> by the fountain from 9am to 12<\/strong> noon, so you\u2019ll be able to meet members of the Besnica Beekeepers\u2019 Association, the Britof\u2013Predoslje Beekeepers\u2019 Association, and the Kranj Beekeepers\u2019 Association.<\/p>

Visitors<\/strong> will learn about bee products<\/strong>, the importance of their quality, and the beekeeping mission; there will be tastings of honey and other honey products, as well as free plants to take home so that they can feed the bees in your gardens, on balconies and windowsills.<\/p>

Visiting an old-fashioned market<\/strong><\/a> is much more than just buying groceries. It\u2019s an opportunity to talk to the producers, to buy the freshest and most seasonal produce without plastic packaging and chat with acquaintances and friends that one meets there by chance. We residents of Kranj are lucky to have plenty of opportunities to shop at markets.
