For more than a thousand years the citizens of Kranj have buried their dead around the church of St. Kancijan. The earliest tombs, therefore, date back to antiquity! Due to the reforms of Joseph II, the old cemetery was abandoned and a new one was set up at the location of the Prešeren grove, while the ossuary chapel by the church was demolished.

After several years of archaeological excavations and efforts to present the finds, this ossuary was opened to the public. If you would like to visit it, stop by the Town Hall and the guides there you will be happy to open it for you and show you around.
