Ponds of Bobovek

After just an hour’s walk, 20 minutes by bike or 10 minutes by car from Kranj, you can reach the ponds that were created one hundred years ago by digging up clay. Mammoths lived here 180,000 years ago, as archaeological finds showed.

Also other fossils were found and a special feature of this place, an urnfield from the Roman period. This area is very dynamic and has ponds, swamps and reed beds. The three small lakes are home to numerous plant species, birds, dragonflies, frogs and much more. Therefore, the area is protected as a nature reserve and in the summer it is great for a refreshing swim, while in spring and autumn you can just relax here or meditate.
