Prešeren Monument

On 28 December 1952, a 5-meter-tall bronze statue of the greatest Slovenian poet was erected on the main square, between the church of St. Cantianus and the Prešeren Theatre. It was created by the sculptors Frančišek Smerdu and Peter Loboda. It was placed there in the presence and under instructions of Jože Plečnik and Josip Slavec who at the time were designing the arcades on the façade of the theatre. It is the largest Prešeren statue in the world.
