With its 646 meters above sea level, the hill of Šmarjetna Gora rises above Kranj and is the ideal place to relax from the busy life in the town. At the top stand the church of St. Margaret and the Hotel Bellevue, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink or a delicious lunch.
The top can be reached on foot, by bike or car and there are also several paths that lead there. The paved road is good when it rains or for cycling. For a more pleasant forest trail, you can start in Stražišče near the Schrottenturn Manor (also called Detela Manor). Go past the chapel of St. Peter and continue along the road, pass a house, then climb steeply up the hill and always choose the path to the right. At the top of the slope, turn right onto a forest path that leads to the saddle. From there take the asphalt road or the gravel road. Once at the top, treat yourself to a drink of your choice lying in a deck chair and admiring wonderful view over Kranj and the mountains.
