The hill of St. Jost (845 m) is only a few minutes by car from the centre of Kranj. You can visit it for recreational sports, nature walks or just to enjoy the great views or the good local food.
The top can be reached by bike or car. At the foot of the hill there is a parking lot and several footpaths that are all well maintained and marked. One of them, Sodarjeva, leads past a wooden crocodile that was once a fountain.
Today it stands in front of the spring that no longer flows through it. Further down the path there is another good opportunity to rest a little bit, a chapel and smaller well with fresh water. On the top of the hill, you will find the restaurant, the Krek House, the Finžgar House, the Chapel of St. Mary of the Snows, the house of the Scout Movement and the Church of St. Jost. It is a popular place of pilgrimage, famous for its Holy Stairs, built of little stones from the Holy Stairs of Rome. In addition, there is also a good children’s playground nearby – a reward for all good little mountaineers.
The Dom na Joštu restaurant offers freshly prepared dishes and drinks in a pleasant ambience, both indoors and outdoors. It is open every day between 8 am and 8 pm, only the kitchen is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. But on other days, delicious stews, štruklji and strudels are prepared there, as well as various seasonal dishes on weekends.
