1–31 December 2020 | Old town of Kranj
Cheerful December | December in Kranj: We wish you pleasant thoughts and a warm heart and above all, stay healthy!
1 - 31 December 2020
The festive time of December is a time for a cheerful atmosphere. The New Year is eagerly awaited and you like to take time for people who are close to you, time for love, conversation, laughter and relaxation. Festive lights, many gift ideas and the scent of warm, sweet cinnamon invite us to the old town, where we can dance a little at every step while listening to good music.
But this year is different. This moment in time does not let us relax too much. The epidemic has brought many limitations into our lives. Therefore, this year's Prešeren December in Kranj will not be the same. But because of the situation, it is all the more important that this December, we ourselves make the magic of a festive mood happen.
The old town of Kranj is dressed in festivity, with carefully selected lights and decorations.
The thread of the tasteful and beautiful decoration are the verses of our greatest poet France Prešeren: “We think well in our hearts,” “Let us all shake hands,” and “Let us raise the glass for us,” which will greet you as you walk through the old town. Christmas trees stand in the square in front of the Prešeren Theatre and in the main square, where there will also be a little fairy-tale forest for children. Wooden sculptures by the florist Matjaž Beguš are standing all through the old town and his wooden crib is displayed in the Kokra Gorge.
From 11 December on, there will also be some magic in the garden of the Khislstein Castle and its story is especially something very for families with children. The decoration and lighting is based on Nežka Kukec's literary debut, A Party for Animals, illustrated by Špela Bedene and designed by Kaja Kramar – all three of them come from Kranj. There is also a wooden nativity scene by Miro Rismond in the garden of Khislstein Castle.
You can take a look at this year's program here.
The festive atmosphere is complemented by music from speakers that can be heard on the streets of the old town. And while you are strolling through town, you will also see some nice places to take photos as memories of this year’s holidays. Despite the current situation, these memories should be pleasant and beautiful!
May this Cheerful December with its thousands of lights bring you a lot of peace, warmth, little attentions and good wishes, and may it warm your heart. But most of all stay healthy!
