Food & drinks: 400 gradi
This newly opened pizzeria serves authentic Neapolitan pizzas, characterised by their distinctive thick edge and thin dough, which, thanks to the long fermentation process, is full-flavoured, soft as a cloud and melts in your mouth. It is topped with tasty ingredients such as mozzarella, aubergines, ricotta, prosciutto, olives, artichokes, spicy sausage and the list goes on and on. All the ingredients are top quality and carefully selected, mostly from Italy. From them, Chef Armando and the team create Italy in miniature. On the menu, you’ll find not only pizzas, but also Italian pastas and light salads. You can start your journey there with great starters such as fried rice balls with beef ragout, peas and mozzarella, fried courgette blossoms stuffed with ricotta, or the simple, but no less delicious, creamy burrata with cherry tomatoes and basil. If there’s still room, try a delicious tiramisu or Sicilian cannoli. Four-legged guests are welcome as well!

Shopping: Park Enigma
The town centre has now a new board games shop. It is offering over 100 different games for rent and also a place to play and socialise. Every day, except Mondays when they are closed, they organise a variety of board game events – from chess, Settlers of Catan and Magic the Gathering tournaments, to learning classic and new games or purely free play, to quizzes and guided games like Dungeons & Dragons. Visitors of all ages are welcome in their premises at 5 Main Square! Their sales staff will be happy to help you make your selection and explain the instructions. Come and play!
December is unimaginable without the Christmas Market, which takes place on Post Street from 4pm to 9pm on Thursdays and Sundays. The stalls are selling a variety of sweets, fragrant and warm winter drinks and gifts to buy from local artisans.
Tip for a trip: Night walk to Šum waterfall & torchlight hike around Kokrica
The Besnica community traditionally organises a night hike to the illuminated Šum waterfall. This year you are invited to join the hike on 26 December between 4pm and 7pm. After having walked downhill for a while, you will be “greeted” by a waterfall about 25 metres high, which is considered one of the largest gliding waterfalls of a stream in Slovenia. At the foot of the waterfall, you will be able to step out onto the viewing platform and have a good look at it.
The organisers will make sure you warm up by a fire with a hot drink. Make sure to wear warm winter clothing and hiking boots. For those of you who prefer to hike on flatter terrain, on the same day you can take part in the traditional torchlight walk through the streets of Kokrica. The march will start on Tuesday, 26 December at 5pm at the Mercator in Kokrica. The organisers will prepare tea and cakes.
The walk will end at the parish church of St. Lawrence, where there will be a greeting by the parish priest, Jože Kljuna, a performance by the Kokr’čan vocal group and a get-together with delicious pastries and hot drinks. The organisers kindly ask all participants to bring torches with them.
Event: Cheerful December
The festive decorations of the city will make your heart beat – the verses of Dr France Prešeren light up the streets and squares, two New Year spruces greet you on the Main Square and in front of the Prešeren Theatre, unique wooden sculptures can be found all over the city centre, and Khislstein Castle has been dressed up for the festive season. One can’t imagine the Cheerful December without the Christmas Market and a wide range of cultural events.
