Nejc Rekar, who now runs the inn, is the third generation of innkeepers in the family. He favours local ingredients from the Gorenjska region.
“A lot of effort and sleepless nights have gone into making Gostilna Rekar what it is today. My father Ivan produced all the food for the guests himself. Many times it was necessary to saughter animals at night. The effort was rewarded, and soon the inn became well-known and was frequented not only by local firemen, policemen and workers from the surrounding factories, but also by high-ranking officials of the time and guests from the surrounding towns,” the Rekar family wrote about the beginnings of this Gorenjska restaurant, whose tradition dates back to 1958.
Interesting fact: for the first three years, the Rekar Inn was located in Duplje, after which it moved to Orehek, where it still stands today. Nejc Rekar, who runs the restaurant today, is the third generation of innkeepers in the family. While favouring local ingredients from the Gorenjska region, he and his team prepare modern dishes as well as food based on traditional recipes. Soups, stews, casseroles, salads, meat and fish dishes, burgers and much more
And then there’s the deserts – their display case is always full of cakes and homemade pies, created with heart by Nejc Rekar in the workshop attached to Gostilna Rekar, using local ingredients. The desserts can be bought fresh or frozen both in the restaurant and at selected locations in Kranj and the surrounding area.
