In February 2025, Anže Skvarč opened Gostilna Ivan at 16 Prešeren Street in the old part of Kranj (in the former Gostilna Matjaž). It is his desire to serve dishes that will delight both locals and tourists, and there will also be lunch menus between 12 noon and 3pm.
In addition to lunches, the menu at Ivan restaurant includes starters such as platters of local meats or cheeses. The next section of the menu is an interesting story of three dishes: soup of the day, Carniolan sausage and žlikrofi.
Then come the more hearty dishes, with a choice of deer goulash, trout, pork cheeks, chicken, beef ribs or ribeye, and there’s also something for those who like vegetable flavours. For dessert, there’s Kranj štruklji, goat’s curd pie or vegan chocolate mousse.
In the early days of Gostilna Ivan, it was already announced that they would be hosting culinary, charity and other events.
Chef Anže Skvarč started his cooking career in Kranj, where he had a kiosk at the train station with fast food that was a bit different, and he has organised several pop-up culinary events in the city centre.
His path then took him to the Jezeršek family restaurants, after which he spent a few years running the kitchen of the Hotel Bohinj in Ribčev Laz, then worked his way around Gorenjska and, as the cherry on top for his career as a chef, he now opened Gostilna Ivan in the centre of Kranj in February 2025.
