The city hides, the underwold reveals: One thousand three hundred metres of secret tunnels are winding beneath the old city of Kranj which stands on top of a cliff, 30 metres high.
15 digitised points in these tunnels will reveal you a timeline of the most important periods in the town’s history of 6000 years.
On a guided tour through the old tunnels beneath Kranj, you will discover the most important milestones of Kranj’s history in a digital experience and you will be able to be touched by the stories carried by the conglomerate rock. You will learn what the first settlements looked like, see important archaeological discoveries, you’ll find out more about when the town was granted city rights, about the religious centre of the ancient Slavs, about the lively fairs in this town and the everyday life of the townspeople, about the water, the bridges, important locals and other interesting facts.
The Tunnels under the old town of Kranj are one of the city’s greatest attractions. Although they were dug out by human hands, a special natural environment evolved, similar to karst caves. Interesting animals such as cave locusts and bats have taken up residence here, and real stalactites have also emerged.
